FBA New Selection Program

FBA New Selection Program – Amazon Inventory Glossary
Definition
FBA New Selection Program waives monthly storage fees for 120 days, return processing fees for up to 20 standard-size units, and offers a monthly average rebate of 10% on qualifying sales for new-to-FBA parent ASINs. Professional sellers with an IPI score of 300+ are automatically eligible.

What the FBA New Selection Program covers

The FBA New Selection Program is Amazon’s incentive package for getting new products into FBA fulfillment centers. It targets new parent ASINs that have never been fulfilled through FBA before. New sellers are auto-enrolled; existing sellers qualify with an IPI score of 300 or higher and a Professional selling plan.

The program bundles three fee waivers and one rebate:

  • Free monthly storage for the first 120 days after your product arrives at an FBA fulfillment center
  • Free return processing for up to 20 units of standard-size products within 180 days of receiving the first unit
  • Inbound placement service fee waiver for the first 100 units inbounded (during qualifying enrollment periods)
  • 10% average monthly referral fee rebate on qualifying sales

You can use these benefits for an unlimited number of new parent ASINs per year. Media category products (books, DVDs, music, software, video games) are excluded. New child ASINs under an existing FBA parent do not qualify, nor do bundles assembled from existing FBA ASINs.

Amazon also offers a 25% discount on Vine enrollment fees for products enrolled in New Selection when you choose the 3-to-10 unit Vine tier. This stacking is one of the best-value launch subsidies Amazon offers.

Example: launching 3 new SKUs at a $2M brand

A private label seller at $2M annual revenue launches 3 new kitchen products into FBA. Each product ships 500 units in the initial batch, with an ASP of $35 and standard-size dimensions.

Storage fee savings (per SKU):

  • Standard-size monthly storage fee (non-peak): $0.87 per cubic foot
  • Average product volume: 0.25 cubic feet per unit
  • 500 units x 0.25 cu ft x $0.87/cu ft = $108.75/month in storage fees
  • 120-day waiver = 4 months x $108.75 = $435 saved per SKU

Return processing savings (per SKU):

  • Standard-size return processing fee: ~$3.50 per unit
  • 20 units waived = $70 saved per SKU

Referral fee rebate (per SKU, first 120 days):

  • Assume 6 units/day average velocity = ~720 units in 120 days
  • Referral fee: 15% x $35 = $5.25 per unit
  • 10% rebate on referral fees: $0.525 per unit x 720 = $378 saved per SKU

Vine discount (per SKU):

  • Basic Vine tier ($75) with 25% discount = $56.25, saving $18.75 per SKU

Total savings across 3 SKUs: ($435 + $70 + $378 + $18.75) x 3 = $2,705.25

That is $2,700+ in fee savings on a launch that would happen regardless. The only requirement is enrollment and an IPI above 300.

Common mistakes

  1. Not enrolling before the first shipment. The 120-day storage clock starts when inventory arrives at the fulfillment center. If you ship first and enroll later, you may lose some or all of the storage waiver window. Enroll before creating your first inbound shipment via Seller Central.
  2. Treating child ASIN variations as new selections. Adding a new color or size under an existing FBA parent ASIN does not qualify. Only brand-new parent ASINs that have never had FBA inventory count as new selections under the FBA New Selection Program.
  3. Forgetting to stack the Vine discount. The 25% Vine fee reduction only applies when the product is enrolled in both New Selection and Vine simultaneously. Sellers who enroll in Vine separately miss the discount.

Frequently asked questions

Is the FBA New Selection Program free?

Yes. There is no enrollment fee. The program waives existing FBA fees (storage, return processing) and provides a referral fee rebate. You simply need a Professional seller account and an IPI score of 300 or higher.

How many products can I enroll in the FBA New Selection Program?

Unlimited new parent ASINs per year. Each new-to-FBA parent ASIN qualifies for the full benefit package independently. There is no cap on the number of products you can launch through the program.

Do variations qualify separately?

No. Only the parent ASIN triggers eligibility. If the parent ASIN already has FBA inventory, adding new child ASINs (sizes, colors) does not qualify for New Selection benefits.

When does the 120-day storage waiver start?

The clock starts when the first unit of the new parent ASIN arrives at an Amazon fulfillment center, not when you create the shipment or list the product. Plan your inbound timing accordingly.

Can I combine New Selection with the Vine discount?

Yes. Products enrolled in both New Selection and Vine receive a 25% discount on the Vine enrollment fee when using the 3-to-10 unit tier. This stacking is one of the best value launch subsidies Amazon offers.
